Obituary for Annette Grant

Annette Grant was born on May 20, 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Lawrence L. Grant & Jessie L. Harris-Grant.

Annette was the only girl among her surviving brother, Ulysses, and her late brother, Jerome.

At a very young age, Annette suffered the loss of her mother, Jessie, which for a time devastated her family. In an effort to try to have a better life for his children, her father decided they should move to New Jersey.

After graduating high school and getting her diploma, Annette was unsure of which direction she wanted her life to go. She decided to attend Job Corp, which provided free residential education and job training. Annette learned some electrical and PCB welding, or PCB soldering, which is circuit board welding. After she became certified, she would have the stepping-stones to start making a living.

Annette always believed that there was a reason that her life was playing out the way it was, and always sought out answers and guidance. She eventually found what she was looking for at The New Hope Baptist Church of Newark. Under the leadership of the late Dr. and Pastor Charles E. Thomas, Annette was appointed as a Deaconess. While receiving her spiritual education at New Hope, she later became a member of the Christian Education Ministry; Teacher of the CBT youth class called, “Planting seeds 1,” and a new member youth teacher for the Junior Girls Sunday School class.

Annette had this saying, “If God put this thing in place for me to have, then no one can take it from me.” This was how she felt when she found and started her professional career. She was hired by Smith Industries as an Actuator Technician. She felt she could go further in her career, and before doing so, enrolled at Gibbs College. Showing how serious she was, she was later promoted to a Contact Administrator. Annette eventually graduated from Gibbs College, Cum Laude with her Associates in Business. Believing that God was guiding her path, she enrolled at Caldwell College to pursue her bachelor’s degree, which continued to help her excel in her profession.

Little did Annette know that while attending college, she would meet and fall in love with Kervens, her future husband. She completed her degree in 2013, and he completed his the following year. They were engaged in October 2015, and married on July 17, 2016. Her 56 years of life were full of love and respect for her many friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews; as well as her New Hope family, and she only ever asked for the same in return.
