Obituary for Barry J. Thompson, Jr.

Barry James Thompson was born on August 3, 1964 into a loving family of Barry and Shirley Thompson. He was “the first” as he often stated and led the way for his sister, Novetta and brothers, Harold (Lil B) and Rob (Jabb).
Barry was brought up in the church where he learned the value in love and caring. This would be his life’s signature. . . . Loving and caring for his family and friends. “Bilal” loved GOD and would often be heard quoting a scripture from the Bible and later the Quran.
Bilal was a great father. His four children, never wanted for anything, he lovingly spent individual time with each of them, was patience, showered them with gifts and could make them laugh with his endless jokes as soon as he felt their conversation was too serious. Then he took care of whatever the situation was.
Bilal was an earnest hard working man. He was often seen in his work uniform. He knew the value in keeping a job and helped others get jobs. He worked at Dasti’s Mountainside Inn, Hartz Mountain and the Board of Education for the Oranges in NJ. He was in the United States Army for 8 years. Bilal was a stand-up guy and would often say” I am only one way”. He was also a jokester; making everyone laugh and then being serious when the situation called for serious conversation or immediate attention. His barber recently said he will always remember “B” because “helped his friends if they were falling and didn’t expect anything when they got back up.” B” was a genuine person, straight forward, 100 percent. He usually said what he meant and would be ready to defend his beliefs and back it up.
He is survived by his companion, Danielle Smith, children, Ahmad, Tamirah, Bilal and Jaynee; grandchildren Lil Ahmad, Aziz; Mother, Shirley; sister, Novetta; nieces, Niesha, Deanna, Makeda; great nieces Skye and Na’Kayla; nephews Jamil and Kahlib and special friends Deborah & Lucille.
