Obituary for Daryl Andre Harrington

Minister Daryl André Harrington, 52, of Newark, New Jersey returned to his heavenly home on April 18, 2020, after a valiant battle with Covid 19. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Daryl was born in Orange, New Jersey, the only child of the late Brenda J. Harrington and oldest son of the late Terrence L. Marable. He was educated in Orange Public Schools and later graduated from Essex County Vocational High School in 1985. He went on to attend Bloomfield College where he majored in English. While Daryl worked in many capacities for the City of Newark and Proctor & Gamble in PA, his most recent position as a Supervisor for Delta Global Services garnered him several Employee of the Month awards and the love of his immediate co-workers, peers and direct reports, along with the leadership in DGS, Delta Airlines and Port Authority organizations.

He was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He began his walk with Christ as a young child attending Union Baptist Church in Orange, New Jersey. In adulthood, he rededicated his life to God when he joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey in 2001, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He later returned to Union Baptist Church where he answered God’s call to become a Minister in December, 2015 and served on the Union Baptist Church Community Outreach Ministry.
Daryl had great love for God, family, friends, Star Wars, the Cowboys, Marvel, people and his community, with a special passion for Orange, New Jersey, where he was born and raised. He coached both youth baseball and football, was a community activist, served on the City of Orange Citizen Budget Advisory Committee, Oakwood Avenue School PTA, and most recently as a Co-Organizer for the Oakwood Ave Community School Boys Mentoring Program. He was also an active member of Oranges & Maplewood Unit-NAACP, as the Chair of Religious Affairs (2009-2014) & Political Action (Current) Committees and became a proud Silver Life Member in 2014.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Tara L. Williams-Harrington; children, Erika S. Harrington, Bryanna A. Harrington, Latasha M. Jordan, Jason J. Alford, and Gregory T. Richardson. Uncle Arthur H. Harrington Jr. (Lynda); sister Kim G. Walker (Ronnie); nephew Kenneth L. Grant Jr. and a host of other family and friends.
