Obituary for Frances Williams

Frances Williams was born on May 10, 1940 to the late Jonas and Savannah Cook in The City of Newark, NJ; and was the 2nd oldest of Seven (7) siblings.
Frances began her education in the Newark School System. She went on to earn an associate degree at Essex County College through the PROJECT DEEP PROGRAM, successfully completing her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Kean College. During her educational journey Frances also obtained her cosmetology license from Wilfred Academy and became the neighborhood PRESS AND CURL GO TO!!
Frances had a varied and blessed career which included working with and transporting Children at Day Care 100 in Orange, serving the public as a Beautician on Halsey Street in Newark, an Operator for an independent company housed in the Robert Treat Hotel, a Bartender at Brandy’s and domestic work for various persons.
Upon Graduation from Kean College Frances obtained a position with Essex County Welfare and remained there until her retirement. Her work for County Welfare took her to various locations to include: Bell St., Orange, 1015 Broad St., Nwk, S. Clinton St., EO and Rector St., Nwk., where she retired. Frances was known to go the extra mile to support her clients well past the 4:30pm quitting hour.
It should also be noted that she continued her Cosmetology services up until her retirement mainly as a favor to her friends.
Aunt Barbara Blaine was her life-long friend and her dear friend Mrs. Poaches is where Frances could be found on a warm summer day with her grandbabies. Grandma Frances would load her car up with Grandbabies, neighborhood grandbabies and take them on excursions anywhere from the mall to the park.
Frances had enduring community, church and work relationships resulting in lifelong friendships too many to name.
Frances a consummate community person and neighbor who orchestrated a variety of activities including:
hosting coffee-clutches for the late Congressman Payne Sr., which introduced and welcomed the current County Executive Joey D, to the neighborhood.
Recruiting and enlisting the Central Place Family to maintain the Beauty of Central Place.
Frances attended St. James AME Church in Newark, NJ where she sang in the choir, served as a Class Leader, in the nursing ministry, on stewardess board E, and on the Pastors Aide.
Frances was an avid reader and loved watching Tyler Perry movies with her grandchildren.
Frances was affectionately known as Grandma Frances, Frannie, Mama Williams, Mommy and Baby Sis.
On April 14th after having her ritual morning time with her grandson Kevin; he left her laying on her back watching tv and then…God called and said:
“WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT”
So, she turned on her side, closed her eyes and went on to Glory where we imagine that Uncle Donald met her in the limo.
Frances was preceded in death by her Sisters Karen Cook, Elizabeth Baltimore, and Brother-in-Law Leslie Baltimore. She leaves to carry on her traditions and legacy to:
