Obituary for Lennox D. Agnes

Lennox Donraven Agnes was born on January 16, 1911 in the small village of
Mazaruni on the Essequibo River in then British Guiana, South America. He was
the youngest of three children born to Joseph and Sarah Lucretia Agnes. When
only six months old, he was diagnosed with polio and his doctors gave him six
months to live. We see what a fighter he was since then; he further lived another
one hundred and eight years and nine months since that dreaded prediction.
Lennox had a great primary and secondary education and also had many talents.
He was a proofreader for a major newspaper, an accountant, a trade unionist, and
a real estate agent. He was one of few men who knew shorthand and could type
more than sixty words per minute. He was also a very good tailor and a religious
counselor.
On October 26, 1946, Lennox married the love of his life, Inez Desborough
McCurdy, and remained in that marriage for almost sixty-five years until she
passed on May 18, 2011. That marriage produced six children.
As his family’s patriarch, he fondly became known as Uncle B, earning the
respect of direct members of his family, which today extends from his children
to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Uncle
B was very hard working, religious and a stern disciplinarian. Many, if not all,
who came into contact with him, loved him.
Uncle B’s cherished memory is now left with his children: Mrs. Constance
Washington, Mrs. Rima Lee, David, Boulton and Andrew Agnes; Children-inlaw:
Carlton Washington Sr., Mark Lee. Mrs. Igred Agnes, Mrs. Marilyn Agnes,
and Mrs. Joy Agnes. Grandchildren: Mrs. Barbara Lee, Carlton Washington Jr.,
Errol Washington, Mrs. Nikola Sampson, Damian Agnes, Marlon Agnes, Mrs.
Rhonda Dalrymple, Mrs. Glynis Jison, Marvin Lee, Stephan Agnes and Ms.
Alika Agnes; Grands-in-law: Lennox Lee, Mrs. Sharon Washington, Anthony
Sampson, Mrs. Anna-Marie Gomez Agnes, Kofi Dalrymple, and Mrs.
Shandrena Lee, his twenty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great
grandchildren; his nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family at the
Elmwood Presbyterian Church, numerous friends and associates.
At 6:22 PM on November 21, 2019, Uncle B fell asleep in death.
Farewell Dad, Father-in-Law, Uncle, Grand Dad, Great grand Dad, Great-great
Grand Dad, Father Agnes, Pops.
Uncle B – Thank you for the way you cared for your flock like the good shepherd
you were. Your memory will forever live with us all.
