Obituary for Lillian Maxine Moss

Lillian Moss
Loving wife, mother and grandmother

Lillian Moss passed away peacefully on September 7 at the age of 88. She was born on May 11, 1932 in Cambridge, Nova Scotia to William and Christine Brothers. She lived a full and happy life. Lillian attended Halifax Childrens Hospital Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1954. Upon graduating, Lillian moved to New York to pursue a career as a pediatric nurse at New York Hospital. While in New York, family introduced her to future husband, Eugene Moss who she married on June 20, 1959. He was her doting husband for 61 years. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Christine and Diane and settled in Maplewood. During her time as a wife and a mother of young children, Lillian went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree and later her Masters. She enjoyed a fulfilling career as a revered elementary school nurse for over 20 years in the Maplewood/South Orange school system. Parents, colleagues and students viewed her as a source of comfort, healing and insightful guidance. In May, 1990, she was recognized by Governor Florio for her work.
Lillian was an active member of Jack and Jill of America and was a charter member of the Essex County Links where she held various leadership roles and was viewed as someone who worked hard to get things done. In addition to participating in such service-driven organizations, Lillian enjoyed gardening, gourmet cooking and travelling. When she became a grandparent, her ultimate joy was spending time with her five grandsons (“Nannie’s boys”), with whom she was enamored.

Lillian is survived by her beloved husband Eugene; her two loving daughters and their husbands Christine Lassiter (Jay) and Diane Moss (Obi Imegwu); her grandsons, Jordan, Evan, Christopher, Alex and Ian; her sisters Marion Lewis, Sandra Stephenson and Deborah Carter; her brothers, Beverly, Terrence and Cameron Brothers. Lillian was predeceased by her bothers, Carl, Allison, Colin, William Jr., and Murray Brothers. Lillian was cherished by her family and she was infinitely devoted to her family and friends. Lillian will always be remembered and deeply missed.
